We offer a full design package ideal for the design of a brand new garden, or the renovation of an existing one. We can also help with planning and planting new flowerbeds and borders, or if some impartial professional advice would help, we also offer a bespoke 1-1 consultancy service – please click on the links below for more information or get in touch.
Full design package
Whilst every garden is different, we use the following process to organise the development of the design idea and help support the agreed proposal onto the ground.
#0 Consultation
We appraise the space and discuss desires, ideas, preferences and budget, plus importantly confirm problems to solve like privacy. This conversation will inform appropriate design strategies and, following further discussion, the design brief. Our services, fees, and project timeline will be confirmed before commencing design work.
#1&2 Landscape assessment & strategy
At this stage we assess the characteristics which will influence the proposal, exploring creative design strategies accordingly. We analyse the qualities, opportunities, and limitations of the space, to ensure that proposals befit the location, context and brief. Any surveys required will be confirmed and commissioned at this point.
#3&4 Concept design
To interrogate and communicate emerging design ideas, we usually create a 3D digital model that allows you to experience the proposed garden or landscape design in much the same way as you would in the real world. Once agreed, this forms the masterplan for the site. At this stage, we can develop the concept design into a more detailed set of drawings and visualisations which can be used to support a planning application, if required.
#5 Detail proposals
After the scheme has been confirmed we focus upon the all-important design details and planting plans necessary to bring the design idea to life. We draft the detailed specifications, construction drawings and planting plans to enable contractors to quote or tender for works necessary to see the proposal onto the ground.
#6&7 Production information & tender action
With smaller projects we often oversee construction of the agreed proposal ourselves, using a network of reliable tradespersons and craftspeople we have worked alongside before. For larger projects we will prepare the necessary documentation and specifications for contractors to estimate or quote for the project. If a tender process is required, we can prepare the necessary package and associated documentation.
#8 Construction & planting
At this stage we work closely with clients and contractors offering the necessary support to ensure that the construction phase runs smoothly. Regular progress reviews are commonplace. We typically plant the gardens we design using our trusted team of experienced and qualified gardeners, working collaboratively with hard landscape contractors to achieve the desired result.
#9 Aftercare & maintenance
As the garden settles, we offer advice and guidance to clients and gardeners to help ensure that the planting establishes as planned. For peace of mind, we also offer a maintenance service using our trusted team of qualified and experienced gardeners.
Planting design
Not every garden needs a complete overhaul. A new planting design can revitalise a space - especially if it’s a mature garden that needs some careful editing or it’s a new garden where the structural elements and hard landscape have been completed.
Plants are an essential design tool introducing much-needed colour, movement and scent, but they’re also useful spatial design tools, and perform numerous functional roles from providing shelter and shade to privacy and screening. Importantly, beautiful planting doesn’t need to be high maintenance either.
We are experienced in designing and planting a large range of sites, from windswept coastal gardens to sunless courtyards. We can also help source the best plants of all shapes and sizes from our trusted suppliers.

Consultancy - Homeowners
At this stage of your garden project, a 1-1 consultation with Matt might be helpful, especially if you need advice on costs, having problems with one area, need suggestions on layout and planting, or it’s a brand-new garden and some professional advice would help you move forward with confidence. This consultation service is designed for homeowners who want professional guidance without committing to a full design package.
Typically half a day is enough unless it’s a very large garden or a complex project where a full day is necessary.
In advance of the visit we ask you to complete a little homework to ensure our time together is as fruitful as possible. Consultancy fees are available on request.
